At December 19th, 2008 the new animal protection organisation Ciudadanos para los Animales / Citizens for Animals was founded. Registered in Barcelona under the Number 547 E, CIF 650012098 by the Regional government of Catalonia, Ministry of Justice, Legal department of registered associations. The members of this registered organisation are (pictures from left to right): Martina Szyszka, Dolores Gutierrez Montes, Clara Coll Jorda, Caroline Waggershauser and Loli Caballero Medina. It should be accentuated that two of our founding members – Clara and Loli – are veterinary surgeons. |

Why founding another organisation fighting for animal rights? Primarily to take a better stand against the bureaucrats at all the levels of European institutions, from the municipalities up to the European Parliament. It is our personal bitter experience that the ordinary citizen has no voice to be heard. Therefore we decided to unite in a formal association with a legal status. Furthermore the real protagonists of the rights of animals are still a minority today.Due to this: The more organisations in defence of the animals are to be founded, the better for the animals. |

Some of us devote ourselfs in the fight for the rights of the animals since years or even decades. Taking the experiences gained, we now join the existing organisations promoting animal protection, natural conservation and human rights in our united fight for security and welfare of animals and nature as well as the people of the world; in a word: the future of our planet. We are totally aware that you can not successfully line up for our animals, if not paying attention to the problems of nature and mankind at the same time. The fight for anyone's life has to become ajoint one and to complement one another. |

Filled with joy and anticipation we work at and live to see a future, in which Tauromachy and all other humiliating spectacles at the cost of animals are abolished, the penal code of Spain is modified for the welfare of the animals and existing laws protecting animals are constantly improved. We will experience the citizens of our countries becoming increasingly conscious of the ones without voices: The animals and the nature. |
As our esteemed friend Leonardo Anselmi – a never slackening warrior in the struggle for the rights of every living being – stated quite recently: »A revolution always starts from below, never from above.« We could not expect the politicians enacting laws in the interest of animals and nature until we, the people, demand it. |
A large portion of our work will be to report from and act on an international level since, regarding the protection of animals, Spain is quite backward in comparison with other member states of the EU, in which laws relating to this field not only exist but being observed and the people, suitable educated, are much more aware of this topic and therefore being far ahead of the Spaniards. By now we are just a few, but the animal protection movement is constantly growing and will not be stopped in pursuit of their noble aim: To alter and widen the consciousness of the citizens of our countries. Brought to a common ground: To open their eyes for anything living and feeling. Some day will come, politicians and those responsible for the terrible suffering of the animals and the nature will not able to close their eyes anymore. They will have to join the cry of the people demanding rights for all creatures – rights to be observed with regard to animals and human beings likewise. |

With these words we join all the animal protection organisations on a national as well as international level in defence of the ones without a voice. We anticipate a look at the future, we all fight for: Respect for the live of any living.
